How to play black jack

You’ll find the tables for playing Black Jack on the first and second floors of Casino Gran Vía, in downtown Madrid.

GAME CARDS

It’s played with 6 decks of 52 cards each, 3 of one color and 3 of the other.

Face cards are worth 10 points, Ace is worth 1 or 11, up to the player’s convenience, while the remaining cards have their face value.

PLAYERS

A maximum number of 7 people can play seated at each table. There can also be standing players behind them, who must always bet on the squares of the seated players, with their consent; they may not give advice or instructions to the main player, and they must always follow the main player’s initiative.

Types of bets
SIMPLE GAME

Once the bet is made, the dealer hands out a visible card to each player, and he deals himself one lastly. Next, he deals a second card in the same order, and then the player will choose, depending on the points he’s got, if he goes on asking for cards or if he stops. In case hi score is higher than 21 points, then he’ll lose the bet. Next, the dealer will draw his cards, having to stop with a core of 17 or more, or deal cards to himself with 16 or less. If the dealer surpasses 21 points, he’ll pay all the bets on the layout; if he doesn’t, he will take the bets of all those players who have fewer points and he’ll pay to those who have a higher score. In the case of a draw, the bet is considered cancelled. Payments are made on a par, but if a player gets a Black Jack, his bet will be paid once and a half (1 and 1/2).

PAIRS

When a player receives the first two cards of the same value, he can play “both hands”, placing a bet equal to his initial one, with the other card. In case he receives two aces, he can only ask for one more additional card per hand, and if the second requested card is a 10 or face card, this will not be considered as Black Jack.

DOUBLE BET

If the player gets 9,10 or 11 points with the first two cards, he can double his bet, and he’ll be entitled to just one card.

INSURANCE

When the dealer’s first card is an ace, then players can obtain insurance against an eventual Black Jack. The dealer will propose this insurance to every player before handing out the third card to the first player asking for it. The insurance is a bet which amount will be one half of the initial stake at most. In case the dealer obtains a Black Jack, the insurance is paid 2 to 1. If he doesn’t get it, then the player loses.

MAXIMUMS AND MINIMUMS

The maximums and minimums are included within the fluctuation range authorized by the Autonomous Government of Madrid and they’re explained at each Black Jack table.
